Korean Traditional musical instrument "TaePyungSo" 태평소

The TaePyungSo is a trumpet looking instrument shawm or oboe family.

Its body is made of yuja wood (below) and jujube or yellow mulberry,with a metal mouthpiece and cup-shaped metal bell. It is played for korean folk songs, marching bands and etc.It is also called the hojok, hojeok 호적 胡笛, nallari, or saenap, 嗩吶.

 It came to Korea from China during the Goryeo period (918 – 1392). It is related to the Chinese suona(a traditional instrument that looks like the taepyungso.)

 It has holes and buttons like a flute but shaped like a horn and a high sound.

In English,the name TaePyungso means big peace wind instrument.
